Sherbet experiment

  • Today in class we did a science experiment on sherbet using a plastic cup, ice block sticks, baking soda, tartaric acid and citric acid. First we got to try all the different ingredients. The ones I liked was the icing sugar and a little bit of tartaric acid. After we all had to mix all of them in the plastic cup and use the right amount to make the perfect sherbet. We had to add a little bit of baking soda, a little bit of citric acid, a tiny bit of tartaric acid and a lot of icing sugar. I enjoyed this activity because we all got to try disgusting acids (in my opinion) and we got to try baking soda straight and it was fun.

Passport Task

Last week we had activities to do on a list. The activities are each worth points to gain and the goal is to get 200 points. It's a cool challenge type of thing for the whole class to do. On the picture is a ticket I designed for a music concert.

Album cover

For our passport tasks I made album cover of Stan Walker and this is my cover of Stan Walker, Take it easy. This activity was worth 40 points. When I showed my teacher she told me that I put alot of effort into my work and so she gave me 10 extra points for putting effort into my work. So that gave me 50 points in total. That album cover was based on my favourite song of Stan Walker.

Information report on rhinoceros

Rhinoceros

What is a  Rhino? I think they’re the closest thing to a real-life unicorn. Let’s read information about these fat unicorns.

Rhinos are a type of herbivore, which means they’re plant eaters. They eat fruits, stems, twigs, grass and leaves. Herbivores are a full type of vegetarian so they won't eat any form of meat.

White rhinos and black rhinos live in grasslands  and floodplains of eastern and southern Africa. Greater one-horned rhinos can be found in the swamps and rainforests of northern India and southern Nepal. Sumatran and  Javan rhinos can be found in small areas of Malaysia and Indonesian swamps and rainforests.

White and Black rhinos have two horns, a big tall one at the front and a small behind it. Most of the types of rhinos are grey and brown. The biggest rhino is the White rhino which is 1.7-1.9m tall, and weighs 2,300 kgs.The smallest type of rhino is a Indian rhino which is 1.6-1.8m tall but are very bulky, and weighs 2,100kgs. Rhinos have big noses and black eyes. Don’t be fooled because it doesn’t look it but the Indian rhino is very fast. Their top speed is a 55 km/h, that's faster than Usain Bolt's fastest running record!

As you can see rhinos are very intelligent  and fun maybe not fun but I hope you have learnt something from my information report about rhinoceros.

Speeches

On week 4 our class did speeches. My speech was on Cyberbullying and surprisingly I got 80 out of 85 and when you get that high you get into the semi finals. When my teacher was reading out the names who got in the semi finals last name she said was "Nathaniel" and at the time I was shocked. So a week later I said it in front of other year sixes, fives and some fours. That day they announced the people going to the finals and I wasn't expecting to get in but I did again. I felt like I was on a roll. The next week i made a shocking 2nd place, what day it was.

My poem about the storm

Today we wrote poems of the huge storm that happened in Auckland.
I see the shattering rain dripping from the skies.

I hear the swirling and twirling of the wind.

I feel the icy cold air breaking through me.

I smell gooey scents of madness.

I taste dry flickering breaths of cloud.

It makes me feel terrified
.
